How the repair process works
Submit a repair request
Tell us what equipment needs repair, describe the issue, and let us know whether you prefer in-home service or drop-off. We'll confirm availability and schedule your service appointment.
Diagnostic assessment
Our technician evaluates the equipment, identifies the cause of the issue, and provides a clear summary of what needs to be repaired before any work begins.
Repair & testing
We complete the repair using appropriate replacement parts and conduct a full safety and function test to confirm the equipment is performing correctly before it's returned to you.
Return & follow-up
Equipment is returned to your home or care setting. For in-home service, our technician will demonstrate that the repair is complete and confirm the equipment is working as expected before leaving.

Power Wheelchairs & Scooters
Power mobility equipment is among the most frequently repaired DME — and when it stops working, the impact on a person's independence and safety is immediate. We diagnose and repair the full range of power wheelchair and scooter issues: battery replacement and testing, motor and controller diagnostics, joystick calibration and replacement, charger repair, tiller and throttle repairs for scooters, and footrest and armrest mechanism failures. Because power chairs often cannot be transported, in-home service is our standard approach for this equipment category. We service most major brands and document all repairs for warranty and insurance purposes.

Hospital Beds & Patient Lifts
A non-functional hospital bed or patient lift is a clinical and safety emergency — especially for caregivers managing transfers alone. We repair electric and semi-electric hospital beds including motor and actuator replacement, hand control and pendant repair, side rail mechanism failures, and Hi-Lo height adjustment issues. For patient lifts — Hoyer floor lifts, sit-to-stand lifts, and ceiling track systems — we address battery and motor failures, boom and base repairs, and sling attachment point inspections. All lift repairs include a safety load test before the equipment is returned to service. Bariatric equipment serviced.

Manual Wheelchairs, Walkers & Rollators
Manual mobility aids take daily wear and tear — and small failures like a dragging brake, a cracked grip, or a bent footrest can significantly affect safety and comfort. We repair and recondition manual wheelchairs including tire and tube replacement, wheel bearing service, upholstery and cushion replacement, armrest and footrest repairs, and anti-tip device adjustment. For walkers and rollators, we service brake cables and handgrips, replace wheels and glides, and repair or replace folding frames. Most manual mobility repairs can be completed as drop-off service with same-week turnaround.

Power Lift Chairs & Recliners
A power lift chair that won't lift or recline leaves a user unable to rise from seated without significant effort — a fall risk and a daily frustration. We repair all major lift chair mechanisms including motor replacement, remote and hand control repair, transformer and wiring failures, and frame and mechanism issues affecting the lift or recline function. We service single-motor, dual-motor, and infinite-position lift chairs from most major brands. Because lift chairs are large and difficult to transport, in-home service is available throughout the Bay Area. Heat and massage component repairs are also available.

A note about our repair service
Our repair service is available for equipment purchased through Independent Life Medical Supplies
When you purchase your durable medical equipment from us, we know your equipment — its configuration, its history, and how it was set up for your specific needs. That familiarity allows us to diagnose issues faster, source the right parts with confidence, and return your equipment to you in the condition you expect. Extending our repair service to equipment purchased elsewhere would compromise our ability to stand behind the quality of our work.
Independent Life Medical is a small, locally owned business serving the SF Bay Area. When you choose to purchase and service your equipment with us, you're keeping your healthcare dollars in the community — supporting a team that knows you by name, responds when you call, and is invested in your long-term care. We're grateful for every customer who makes that choice, and our repair service is one of the ways we give back that trust.
